Rochester Castle's ice rink platform
To celebrate Christmas and to boost visitor
numbers over the winter holiday period,
Rochester Council installed a synthetic ice rink
in the well-known Rochester Castle Gardens.
For obvious reasons, the substrate for the ice rink had to
be 100% flat and completely stable. Over a grassed area
that had a gradient of approximately 1 in 50, LEL Hire
installed a 40m x 40m steel deck structure platform
complete with access ramps and steps.
The platform had to comply with the relevant Health and
Safety requirements and also minimise damage to the
turf. In very demanding winter weather, the platform
performed with 100% reliability and contributed to
the overall success of the eight week long event.
